As luck would have it, LiveJournal's login page listed a series of political communities.  For example:

</b></a>[info]anarchists (anarcho-socialism)
</a></b></a>[info]greenanarchy (green ideology/anarchism/eco-terrorism(?))
</a></b></a>[info]greenparty (green ideology)
[info]imaliberal (liberalism)
</a></b></a>[info]liberal (liberalism)
</a></b></a>[info]libertarianism (libertarianism)
[info]marxchat (Marxism)
</a></b></a>[info]marxism (Marxism)
</a></b></a>[info]radaware (radicalism in general)
</a></b></a>[info]redproletariat (communism)
</a></b></a>[info]rightist (conservatism)
</a></b></a>[info]socialists (socialism)
</a></b></a>[info]fascism_natsoz (fascism/national socialism)
</a></b></a>[info]all4israel (pro zionist)
</a></b></a>[info]free_palestine (anti zionist)

Many of these are very amusing.   It never fails to amaze me how, no matter what a person believes, he or she is capable of being blinded by it, sees ALL things through its lens, and refuses to consider alternative explanations.  It's precicely like a religion.  This is all the more amusing when the Believer in question is a hardcore secularist.

And sometimes it's confusing.

I met a guy a few weeks ago who talked to me about what a genius Karl Marx was and how his ideas should be implimented.  He also thinks that gays should not be allowed to hold political office or even appear in the media, which in turn, should not be allowed to depict homosexuals.  Ever.  Oh. And school prayer should be mandatory.

My reply was something along the lines of  "O_o"

Anarchy is a personal favorite of mine. I love how anarchists go on about how it's the only way to achieve personal freedom, when all it would do is create micro-tyranny. Gotta love those Anarchists...

I would love to have a situation in which we had no government. However, if such a situation did exist, organized vigilantism would quickly evolve into a sort of despotism, and pretty soon some guy on horseback is in charge.

(I pretty much stole that from an R. A. Heinlein quote)

One of the things that annoys me about many people on the left is how they go on and on about valuing personal freedom and choice. ...so long as your choices coincide with theirs.

This doesn't trouble me so much on the right, because at least they don't make a pretense of valuing personal choice. ;)

Case in point for the left - Al Gore this morning on the Today Show (TV was on while I ate breakfast). An interviewer asked him to comment on a quote from a climatologist who disagrees with the human-caused theory of global warming. Gore was incensed. "It's irresponsible for the media to give attention to this sort of argument" he said.

Wait. So we shouldn't be -allowed- to hear dissenting opinions?
